Urban Shopping Legends Debunked

by Heidi on April 16, 2010

There are few things I look for when I shop and the most common, that we can all relate to, is a good bargain.

So in my day, I’ve found, what I initially thought were urban shopping legends (and/or myths) and have, over time, debunked most of them! Go me?

Lily Pulitizer at TJ Maxx. Not just a shopping myth, I’ve seen and touched it with my own two eyes/hands. It does exist.

Vineyard Vines at Marshalls. Got a pair of $88 khakis for like…$12 after a gift card. Shopping. Win.

Stuart Weitzman Shoes for $50 at DSW (or other discount shoe store). I hadn’t yet come across any of these, I knew they existed but I find it hard to believe until I find it with my own two eyes. Today? I did.

$49.95 at DSW.com (but only in a size 6.5…my shoe size!!!)

I was searching for a pair of shoes to match my bridesmaids dress for Liz’s wedding in two weeks, and happened upon these gems. If only I had a place to wear them to. Also, what gives with the finding FOUR pairs of adorable navy shoes. I feel like when I was searching for navy colored bridal shoes a year ago I couldn’t find jack! Ahh gotta love those “if only’s…” in life… I’ve found my perfect shoes for my new beloved green dress, but have only been able to find them in silver. I want them in a gold color. Wamp wamp.

What’s your best shopping find??? Have you debunked any urban shopping legends??

Gucci skirt at Filene’s basement. $80. No joke! Now if only I could love 10 pounds so it would fit again…

Not me. :( I am one of those luck ones who hear about them all of the time but never actually finds them.

I had so much fun last night! We need to get together again soon!

DSW is definitely a winner. I usually go overboard on any “shopping deals”, however, because I figure with all the money I am saving I might as well buy twice as much stuff, right?…right?

Thanks for the invite to the event last night! I had so much fun and I hope to see you again soon. Let me know if you make it into the city in May!

I have seen the Stuart Wietzman’s at DSW before– but never had the need for whatever was there. I know, I know, I hate how practical I am sometimes.

And hey, since we are talking about cute navy shoes, don’t forget about these. Love them. L.O.V. E. them.

This is adorable. I firmly believe there are still other myths out there that I haven’t seen yet. I do like Vineyard Vines though, cute stuff.

Oh, this blog spoke directly to me!
Bargains are my middle name…and one spot I always have luck (but you must be patient, grasshopper!) is Thrift Stores!
I just bought a Georgiu halter (brown with pink polka dots) sun-dress – NWT (new with tag!) for $7.99!!!!!!!!!! Also, a darling black velvet shrug (Bebe) for $4.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just takes some time, and effort (holding so many hangers on my way to the fitting room) but it’s worth it!
