“So scared of getting older
I’m only good at being young
So I play the numbers game to find away to say that life has just begun”
-John Mayer “Stop this Train”
I’m 27 today. Another year. Unlike the song, I’m not that afraid of getting older, a little afraid, but life really is just beginning. Twenty-six had so many ups – amazing ups – and so many amazing downs. I feel like I’ve come so, so far, and I’m so excited to embark on the journey ahead of me – but mostly to embark on it with my amazing husband.
How was 26?
I PR’ed in a marathon. We had a flood in our apartment. We suffered job loss. I got married to a man I love more than anything in the world surrounded by my nearest and dearest friends and family. We honeymooned in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Suffered more job loss. We moved closer to our friends and families. I kind of got into grad school but then I found a job I love and am oh so passionate about and switched paths finally, to round out year 26, I signed up for marathon #5.
Now, as I enter my late twenties, I’ve begun thinking more about what I want to accomplish in the next three years before I turn 30. Much like one of my favorite bloggers, Slice of Pink, I’ve decided to start my own 30 before 30 list.
This year’s birthday was so much better than years past – while all have certainly had ups and downs, this one hasn’t had many downs aside from those missing the celebration due to circumstances out of our control
But Saturday night Hubs, myself, Brother-in-law and two of my engaged pals went to dinner at a great sushi place downtown then out for drinks where a coworker of mine met up with us. Many drinks were imbibed. Sunday we had lunch with my in-laws who surprised me with a visit, and then enjoyed a fabulous dessert in Springdale at a local Italian Bakery. I ended the weekend with a hot yoga class with one of my new coworkers, and then this AM I worked which was so much fun with my coworkers who are all so fabulous.
I am so, so lucky, seriously homies. So very blessed – so thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it really has been a fabulous one!
