In 2010

by Heidi on January 1, 2010

Reviewing my 2009 goals…I did okay, some were unrealistic, some were partially accomplished, some I completed, others just…what the eff was I thinking?! Here’s the run down:

1. Run 2 marathonsI only ran 1, but I PR’ed at my hometown race! But I did run a 10k, and a 10 miler!
2. Lose 20 lbs – gained like…five. But! I’m working with a trainer so I can lose that weight
3. Find a career I love Pursing careers in secondary education (private schools) and/or a masters in education. I’ll get there but I know what I’m after!
4. Read 52 booksI started #49 the other day! Though, there were two books I started that I just couldn’t get into. So total books read = 47
5. Pay down half of my credit cards (at least!) – omg. with all the unemployment we’ve faced this year we’re lucky we didn’t go bankrupt (and no that’s not because of my shopping.)
6. Complete NaNoWriMo – Ugh. I tried. I got to 8k words and just…lost my motivation. I’m convinced it’s because I’ve been battling the blues since we moved to CT. There is however a JaNoWriMo. I’ll try that to make up for my lack of NaNo-ing. And try NaNo again in November.
7. Attend BlogHer in Chicago – went and OMG it was AMAZING! See you all in 2010 in NYC???
8. Do a Detox at least once every other month – I should have known this was impossible and a hilarious attempt at being “trendy.” FAIL.
9. See family more than 3 times/year I saw them in: May, July, September, November and December. In addition: I’ve seen my dad twice in NYC since moving to CT, and my sister and mother came to visit separately also. We’re also going to VT in January for some collegiate hockey.
10. Run a half marathon/10 mile/5k/10k (in addition to 2 marathons) (GW Parkway 10 miler: 4/26/09 1:58:30; Capitol Hill Classic 10k 5/17/09 59:0? (my chip was defunct – a problem many had so my time is unknown but i do know i finished in under an hour). I didn’t run the 5k or 1/2 marathon but this year I will.

This year in 2010….

1. Complete the History classes needed to get my certification and get into a certification program, or get a job at a private school.
2. Run 2 marathons, a 1/2 marathon, 10 miler, 10k and 5k. I will run these. I will PR in each. (am already registered for VT City on 5/30/10). Included in this, I want to log 500 miles. At least.
3. Lose 20 lbs. I will do this. I will: by eating better, running more and working out 5 days/week. Follow my adventures here! (Not to mention we have 5 weddings to attend, one of which I’m MOH for so I damn well better look good!)
4. Read 50 books this year. (Hubs and I are starting a challenge.)
5. Cut our debt in half this means cutting back on EVERYTHING.
6. Join Junior League.
7. Start freelancing (again…hire me!). Also: blog more. I let my mood get me into bloggy ruts and well, I just don’t like that so I’m going to try to blog 5 times/week.
8. Start a chapter of this non-profit in Fairfield County. There are about 10-15 of us interested that I’ve found out about through email so after the first of the year I’m going to encourage us to take the first steps.
9. Go BlogHer 2010 in NYC. (Are YOU going?? Wanna be roommates? I know I live close to NYC but really it’s a 45 minute train ride and given my experience at BlogHer last year I’m NOT going to want to take the train back to Stamford each night)
10. Send my brother at least 6 care packages while he’s in Afghanistan. Also: This.
11. Stay in touch with friends/family: write a letter each week, call my grandparents every other week, have lunch with my dad at least once/month
12. Complete either JaNoWriMo or NaNoWriMo.
13. Cook one new recipe/month. So that’s 12 new recipe’s for 2010. I’ll post them here to hold myself accountable! Also, I’m taking on Menu Monday’s!

I think those are some good, quality resolutions. What are your 2010 resolutions???

I’d say you got quite a bit accomplished. Congrats! Also, I have no idea how you managed to get through 47 books!

I don’t know how I feel about NaNoWriMo … I agree with it in sometimes you’ve got to force yourself to write when you don’t feel like it to get it done, but I think the NaNoWriMo is a little too aggressive in that by the end you’re just forcing yourself to produce words at the expense of quality. I’m not trying to pooh-pooh it because it does work for some people, but I like the idea of setting slightly more reasonable monthly or weekly goals.

YES. If not at the actual $200 event, at least at the parties afterwards. :-)

I seem to have a difficult time reading more than 13 books a year! I’d love to do a 50/52 book challenge but I’d fail miserably I’m sure!

But I think you have a ton accomplished last year. Looking forward to how you do this year :)

I love your blog actually got here via Twitter. Your resolutions seem exactly like ours esp. paying down cc debt. Also good luck on the TFA process. It’s huge and I hope they accept such a talented person like yourself. I applied 4 the summer deadline and just got accepted so again good luck.

    Best wishes

Hi! Great topic. I really do not make “resolutions” per say, but there are always goals that I think I would like to accomplish every new year. This year I too am working on career goals, health goals, reading more, writing more, living a focused intentional life. I could go on but those are the big things. I love how you are so transparent on your blog and you never cease to inspire me! Keep up the great work!
