Once upon a time, Hubs and I decided we wanted to move north. To be closer to family, friends and just out of the beltway.
Well, after abruptly losing my temp-perm job on our honeymoon, I decided I wanted to pursue my teaching certification in CT. Hubs started looking for a job up in CT solely, and our mission to move north (Formerly known as “Mission: Slingshot“) , went into action.
Wellp, last Tuesday Hubs got a call, followed by a phone interview, followed by an interview, followed by an offer while on the road to Vermont on Saturday, and then acceptance of the offer Monday after some negotiations.
Tuesday he started work in Stamford.
Friday we signed a lease.
We move in two weeks.
TWO WEEKS! I’m beyond thrilled, and excited for our new life. While dealing with all these emotions, I’m dealing with an immense sadness. It took me a while to make some really great friends here in DC. We got married here, not so long ago, we met here, and home? While a mess, is comfortable.
The past week and half has been spent looking at least four apartments a day, writing wedding thank you notes, planning, applying to grad school and today? Making a plan for moving logistics.
I’m excited for our new apartment though, it’s a two bedroom with significantly more space than what we have now, lots of closets, two parking spots (yessss for not having to park on the street anymore! Hellllllooooo lower car insurance!), a nice kitchen, no yard, but laundry in the unit. We’re going slightly over our budget for what we wanted to spend, but the other apartment we were seriously considering was smaller, not nearly as nice and only about $100 cheaper. For a one bedroom. Oh yeah, and that one bedroom apartment? Had Electric EVERYTHING – including heating…the neighbor we met? Said last winter he spent close to $300 for ONE MONTH! Yikes. That? Was not in our budget.
But we’re really excited about the new apartment. I’m excited about hopefully getting into grad school and about finding a new part time job up there for the holiday season.
In other news, I will post this afternoon (sorry it’s late!) the winners to my Fitness Magazine giveaway. For now? Target run for packing needs, and boxes. Need boxes. *sigh*
P.S. Any CT bloggers out there???

WOW, big changes! Congratulations on the new job for the hubs and a new life for you!!! Good luck!
Yay! Congratulations! I’m so excited for you guys! I know how frustrating it is when you’ve decided to move and you have to wait on job stuff to make it happen. So glad it’s all coming together for you.
I still strongly dislike this mission!
I think this is SO exciting. It sounds like you made the right decision in the long run on the apartment, and I’m sure it will all work out just fine. I know you’ve had a lot of change lately, but I think you’ve got so many good things going on and a ton of possibilities in front of you. Can’t wait to see where the journey leads you!
I wasn’t expecting this move to happen so suddenly, but I’m so happy for you! Sometimes it’s better that things happen quickly — just get it done rather than ruminating over it and knowing for months in advance that something is coming up. I think this will end up being a tremendous opportunity for you guys and it’s very exciting.
Wow! Congratulations on everything, though and it seems like you are making a great decision and everything is falling into place.
I love Connecticut, I lived there for a few months this spring and really enjoyed it!
How exciting! Sounds like everything is coming together.
CONGRATS! I’m also jealous…I wanna live in CT:)
I just met you and you’re leaving me! I’m sad but thrilled for you two. Expect me to alert you whenever I head north and hey, if I end up at Quinnipiac… you’ll see a lot more of me. Congrats to both of you- see you Saturday!
Sometimes things like this happen for a reason. If it means you get out of the rat race even better!
You know I’m excited for you to move here! I know I’ve said it before, but let me know if I can help with anything. Also, I thought I saw hubs on the street the other day, but then thought, no he’s in DC with Heidi.
I work in CT, but live in MA so I am a bit north of you guys. Welcome to my work state- boy is it expensive!
Woot woot! I thought you had moved to CT. Yay for Hubs! Yay for a great apartment! I’m glad to hear things are moving along well.
