I’ve been feeling really blah lately. Very sedentary and unhealthy.
Usually, around this time of year, I’m training for a marathon but not this fall. With the wedding I just wasn’t motivated enough to stick to a training plan and it wasn’t worth it for me to risk injurying myself – especially sans health insurance.
But today, we were both inspired. Perhaps it was the grease from our Waffle House breakfast, or the fact that in two days we’ve sat in a car for about 9 hours and another 6 or so hours coming up on Wednesday but we were inspired to get better – for reals – about our health/fitness.
My plan:
*Eat better. I’ve been eating HORRIBLY since the wedding and well, my pants are feeling it. This is…unacceptable. I need to do better. This will be remedied by eating IN, eating more fruits and veggies, eating a hearty breakfast each morning
*Now that I’m back to working AM’s, I plan to work out after each shift like I was before. Three days of strength and five days of cardio/yoga/running (alternating? combo?)
*Walk more…with Hubs and Pupski. It needs to be done for all three of our sake.
*Drink less. It’s been a celebratory month. A great month! But time to cut WAYYY back for many reasons.
*Weight goal? I’m still trying to get back to 125-130. It’s about 15-20 lbs but entirely doable. Over time. If I stick with my goals.
It’ll all get done but for the next month, until my habits change, I’m going to keep track once/week here.
What say you? How are you feeling before the slippery slope of the holidays? I have TWO subscriptions to Fitness magazine that I happened to come across in my mail (they come with my renewal and are valued at $17) so if you’re with me for getting healthy, leave a comment with YOUR getting healthy tips/tricks/goals and I’ll draw two winners Friday October 9th for a free subscription to Fitness magazine. This isn’t sponsored, just from me, because if nothing else I’m feeling generous
And, it leaves me accountable by putting it here and if others are with me? That’s even more fun! Right? Right.

oooooh! i need more inspiration!!!!
I am in the SAME BOAT. Got married in May and haven’t worked out or eaten that well since! I’m starting a 6 week book camp tomorrow – this will be 3X week, and adding in running as training for my half marathon next January. To mix it up I’ve recently started the Physique 57 dvds. We’re also going to be eating at home a LOT more – too much eating out or convenience food has made my pants a bit tight as well!
I think you’ve got a good start, friend. I think it’s also important to pace yourself with your goals and to allow yourself to be overwhelmed by your body’s abilities, rather than feeling defeated by what your body hasn’t accomplished yet.
Good luck!
I have faith that you can reach those goals– they sound realistic and achievable. For me, its all about making sure I keep healthy food in the house, and make sure I have time to cook (at least a couple times a week). Good luck!
I’m so jealous that you got to eat Waffle House! I miss it so much. But, it is probably for the best considering the amount of grease in their food
I’m with you….I totally need to lose at least 15!
It probably doesn’t help that I just had a chicken biscuit from McD’s for breakfast
We all have our ups and downs with working out. I am currently training for my first marathon. My long runs are now at 13 miles, and my knees are hurting very bad after them, so I am worried! But that is my goal for now – run my first marathon.
My tip is to schedule workout time for yourself and treat it like an appointment with anyone else. You wouldn’t stand someone else up; don’t stand yourself up. And make that appointment at the same time every day/every week if possible so that you can get in a routine and stick to it. Now I need to go and do this.
I’ve been thinking about this lately, too. And I have no tips, except for to go. to. the. gym. Which I say I will do every day, and then either work late or open my apartment door and realize my pajamas sound much more exciting.
Boo
Sounds like you have a good start. I need a workout schedule. I feel more accountable. If I don’t have my workouts posted on the fridge, it makes it much easier for me to blow them off. I try to workout the same time every day, I am a very routine/structured exerciser
Those all sound like the right stuff to do to get back on the wagon. It’s always okay to indulge but in moderation. You’ve had a lot of great stuff to celebrate and I’m glad you didn’t deny yourself
Girl, it sounds like you’ve made the right first step… making the goals and writing them down! I personally find that if I try to get 5 good days of workouts in (some cardio, some strength and/or yoga) along with watching what I eat, I stay feeling pretty good. I feel it’s ok to have a dessert or beverage here and then as long as there is a balance! If you go after these goals, I bet you get to your happy weight in no time!
I feel like you’re totally on the right track here. I think for me, just working at a gym would be encouragement enough–something about seeing totally fit and active people totally brings out the cool-kid-envy in me, and I just want to be like them. Plus, you’re right there!
I’m also all for the walks and drinking less–the PhD and I recently went on this plan where we’re only drinking on the weekends, and it was really hard at first (hi, I’m a wino), but I’ve TOTALLY noticed an up in my energy levels, and I FEEL healthier, too. That and it saves money … win all around!
I wrote pretty much the same thing Saturday night. I’m with you on all this, girl!
I’m right there with ya, girl – I was doing really well with the whole healthy thing and then September came along and smacked me in the face. I’m hoping to get into a good routine all October and November so that by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, I’ll be so committed that I’ll keep it up all through the holidays.
A girl can dream, right?
Well, thanks for being so thoughtful and offering up that free subscription to Fitness. I know I could use one!
Just got married in April and I’m really trying hard to work off my celebratory pounds!
set daily goals to stay positive!
Good for you — and excellent motivational giveaway! Sign me up! I could totally stand to hop back on the workout train.
When I feel my eating getting more junkie than healthy, I start writing down what I’m eating. It makes me more conscious of what I’m putting in my mouth and I start to think twice about what I’m eating and whether I’m really hungry.
The best get healthy tip I’ve ever heard is to eat less and move more. Easier said then done that’s for sure. So for the eat less, I try to eat at home and on a regular schedule, so I don’t get hungry and pig out later. For the move more, instead of just letting my dog out, I take her for walks and run around the park with her, and I always take the stairs, and I park far from the door, I figure every step counts. Good luck!
I like to focus on fun stuff. I’ve been taking my gym’s Latin Dance class and take their ballet class whenever I can. They also have a cardio video dance class I’ve been known to embarass myself in (and it’s so much fun).
