One of my favorite bloggers started Roctober last year after a craptacular Sucktember.
This September was pretty fabulous. I don’t really have to describe why…but things haven’t really…been as great as they should be given our newlywed status. Starting out as we have would break anyone but we’re doing okay – we communicate, appreciate one another and know that at the end of the day, despite any badness, we have each other. And a roof over our head. And a cute puppy. Who doesn’t love a cute puppy?
I’m vowing, starting today, to make my Rocktober especially rocktacular to…
1. Finish five books (I have 4 directly on my tbr list). I want to read lots more than I have been since the honeymoon.
2. Pass my Praxis exam on Monday. I’ve been studying hard, but I’m fairly confident. Still though, no one likes 3.5 hour long tests.
3. Not spend any money on clothing. Limit going out-ness (tough when we’re not in town and I want to catch up with gal pals when we are here). See below.
4. Complete Don’t Go Over in October. I haven’t yet set a budget for myself, however, aside from the whole not spending I don’t have, I’m limiting myself to 2 drinks when out (unless happy hour special), and lunches out must be under $10.
5. Change my name. Going to social security tomorrow AM before I get lunch with my pal Magda. I’d love to have the whole thing done before I *hopefully* enroll in grad school.
6. Finish cleaning my house. Between boxes waiting for the day we get to move, and the unopened gifts that we haven’t used yet and suitcases that are waiting to be packed for our next #tripnorth. I want to be able to eat at my table, and cook in my kitchen. Neither is exactly possible right now, mostly because we haven’t been around. Time to clean up. ASAP. (donate clothes, books and recycle old papers as necessary).
7. Email! Stay in touch! I’m horrid at returning emails and horrid at staying in touch. So I want to be better about that this month. This includes my wedding thank you notes. I’m still working on the ones from my bridal shower. That was in July. Eeep!
8. Get my grad school application in ASAP. Need to call potential grad school to ask where my recs should be sent, and send info to my two recommendations, hopefully I’ll get that done. Sometimes, I’m bad on the follow through but this can’t be one of those things.
