Guest Post…

by Heidi on September 20, 2009

a wee bit late, but hadn’t had the time to schedule this before the wedding mania kicked in – regardless, much has happened in the past week (not pregnant. Fret not) and I can’t wait to share…for now, Lexi’s filling in…

Oh hello friends! I’m Lexi and I blog over at Tea and Crumpets and am quited thrilled to be guest posting for the lovely Heidi for the second time! I had the honor once before, which was also my first time ever guest posting, but I am not going to dig through the archives for that post. Feel free though, if you wish :)
So while our favorite pink lady is off honeymooning with her HUSBAND, you have the great fortune to spend a few quality moments with me. Aren’t you lucky!
I was thinking about what to write and realized something. Heidi was one of my first friends that I made here in DC. Yes, I am friends with her in real life! Now I’m the lucky one, because she’s a great friend to have and I am so glad that I met her. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane for a moment, shall we? I moved here five years ago for a job for a job on the Hill working for a New England Congressman. That fall, Heidi was here, also working for a New England Congressman (yeah northeast!). Our offices were both in the Rayburn HOB (House Office Building) and we sometimes attended social events there together. She soon went back to Boston for school and we kept in sporadic touch until she moved back after graduation, and the rest, as they say, was history. A friendship was born.
I don’t need to tell you how great Heidi is. You read her blog, you already know this. Since we’re on the subject of Heidi and weddings and honeymoons, let’s discuss what a beautiful bride she will be. I’ll be at her wedding, so I’ll get to see for myself. If you’re lucky, I’ll post a few pictures on my own blog (with her permission, of course!), so you should stop on by sometime and say hello.
Since you are reading this, Heidi is honeymooning in Puerto Rico. Lucky lady! As for my honeymoon (I am not engaged, for the record, just like to get ideas!), I have a few places in mind. I was thinking Greece would be nice, but I know a few people who have recently honeymooned there and I don’t want to go where everyone else does. If you read my blog, you know that I like to be a bit different, ha! (this is probably why I spent a semester studying in Luxembourg, when most friends went to London or Paris and hadn’t heard of Luxembourg!). I also think that Iceland would be amazing. I’ve wanted to go there for a long time. I do think though, that wherever I do go, it will likely be in Europe. I’m not much of a beach girl, so I have little interest in the Caribbean. I know people who adore it, and I’m sure it’s lovely, but not really for me, for now. Ask me again when I am 60 and loving it!
So, discussion question of the day. Where did you/will you honeymoon? How did you choose this place? Was there a lot of discussion/negotiation with your spouse?

First of all: congratulations and best wishes to the bride and groom! As for my honeymoon…we actually booked it last week and MAN was that a chore. Figuring out where we were going, if we could do it with our work schedules, if we could find a trip that worked with our holiday wedding date…it took a lot of work. We finally ended up with a nice, long cruise to Mexico…and I can’t wait.

The honeymoon was the FIRST thing we planned, wedding-wise! Fiance and I are very into travel, and neither of us had been to Australia, so that’s where we decided to go. We’re going to be in Sydney for a while, then on to Cairns (by the Great Barrier Reef), and finally Melbourne before we have to come home. When the wedding planning has gotten too crazy, I can calm myself down a bit by thinking of the awesome trip we have ahead of us (and, oh yeah, that marriage thing, too!).

Yay! Congrats to Heidi and her new hubby!

For our honeymoon, we actually had 2! My husband’s parents have membership in the Disney Vacation Club so they offered us a week’s stay at the Boardwalk. They were also able to secure our plane tickets through credit they had. While Disney was not a first choice for us to honeymoon since we go there practically every year, since it was a gift and all we had to pay for was dining it seemed pretty logical! We had an amazing time and I wouldn’t do anything differently.

Our second part of the honeymoon was going to VT a day after we came back from FL. VT is special to me because my family and I have vacationed up there for as long as I could remember. A family friend gifted us their cottage for a couple of days and we just happened to be there when the leaves were just starting to change. It was wonderful!
