Game On…

by Heidi on July 27, 2009

Over a happy hour tonight, that we probably shouldn’t have gone out to, Fiance and I decided to make getting out of DC our top priority. Neither of us is really happy here, we can’t afford to move in the area, yet, we’ve rapidly outgrown our current space and career wise? I for one, don’t really have any desire to pursue “politics” like I did back in 2006.

New York/CT.

Boston.

Chicago.

Who ever finds a job first, could determine where we move to, or if we move. Game on bias (any and all job leads are accepted).*

I just…I’m tired of DC. I don’t have the energy to just take a job here for the sake of taking a job, yet I know I will anyhow because well, we’re broke…ish. We would stay. If one of us found the right position. A job that, as I described to a friend of mine, doesn’t make me want to gauge my eyes out.

Fiance is in a similar boat. For different reasons. Not my place to get into but we both feel stuck in DC against our will almost.

I’m ready for a change. I thought DC was going to be a great love affair, welcoming me with open arms when I needed to grow into my own person. Instead, I tripped, I fell. I stumbled and cried. I found love, but I lost track of my hopes and dreams and ambitions somewhere in between all that.

DC, I have tried to love you. But really? It’s been a love-hate affair from the start. I should have just gone to freakin’ Montana back in 2006, it would have gotten me away from all I ended up running from to begin with. Of course, much like if I had taken the Congressional campaign gig I was almost offered in Vermont at that time, I would have been left jobless and living at home in November.

Now I might be jobless, but I’ve got a fiance who loves me more than anything, and a cute, cuddly puppy – which is more than I had in 2006.

So perhaps a change of scenery is in order. Be it Boston – to rekindle a love affair gone wrong, gone horribly horribly wrong sometime after I graduated mind you; or New York/CT to pursue the life we want, the space of suburbia with the access to a thriving metropolitian; or to Chicago – a whole new world. New sports teams (I could never cheer for the White Sox, or the Bears), new politicians to mock (Roland Burris? Really?) and whole new foodie places to pursue (why doesn’t Superdawg use ketchup?!?!). It could be fun, but is it worth the effort when we know we REALLY want to settle in Connecticut? With access to our families, and friends? Especially, when each time I trek home to Vermont, my beloved grandparents seem to be aging faster and faster.

Only time will tell. At this point? It’s anyone’s game. I’m just excited to play.

I’ll let you know if I hear of any worthwhile political jobs in Chicagoland. Though I quit my political job, I still network with those people. Senate campaigns are going to get started prettttty darn soon!

Sorry you haven’t loved it here. It’s amazing how bad experiences can leave such a bad taste in your mouth for a city. I’ve never lived in Boston, Chicago, or NY but I’m sure any of them would be great for a new start.

This is so exciting. I didn’t hate DC, and in fact for awhile I loved it, but there came a point when it was time for us to leave. After realizing we wanted to go, it took us over a year to make it happen. But now, here we are in Denver and it’s the best thing we could have done for ourselves.

My best friend lived in Boston for 3 years and then moved to Chicago about a year ago. She seems to like Chicago a lot more, and honestly I enjoy visiting her there a lot more. And I really liked Boston! I root for Chicago. Such an awesome city. I like it better than DC, too!
