I’ve been meaning to make hummus for a while. I had seen some incredibly easy recipes and given the fact that they were quick and easy, they made for a perfect late lunch/early dinner tonight while I got some work done.
I’ve been horrible at taking pictures of the process but really? The inside of my blender with what essentially looks like pureed brownish baby food, doesn’t look quite as good as it tastes.
Easy Hummus
{adapted from All Recipes}
INGREDIENTS
- 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained, liquid reserved
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
DIRECTIONS
In a blender or food processor combine garbanzo beans, garlic, cumin, salt and olive oil. Blend on low speed, gradually adding reserved bean liquid, until desired consistency is achieved.
What I did differently…
I added two small cloves of garlic, and used 3 7oz cans of chick peas. I added the third because I added a little too much water and it was too runny but I just added a dash more of cumin and salt and a sprinkle of pepper. Also, I squeezed a small part of lemon juice in there – I had read a separate recipe that called for lemon juice so I thought I’d add some to mine. It added a little bit of sweetness to it which I enjoyed.
All in all? This will definitely become a regular recipe for me, it took less than ten minutes to prepare/make and has been sitting in a bowl all day just asking to be snacked on. I served it with some Naan bread from Trader Joe’s, and when I ran out of that, I had some whole wheat pita bread.
Enjoy!

Mmmm Hummus. Sorry it’s half eaten….

Yum! I’ve never made hummus, but it sounds relatively easy to whip up. We had some my boyfriend’s mom made at the beach, and it was perfect.
Ooo, this looks good! I’ve got to try it soon.
