Getting Somewhere

by Heidi on May 27, 2009

For the past two months I’ve felt that I’m spinning my wheels. With everything – not getting any where career wise, wedding planning wise, and being in general lazy.

Well, this weekend I had a slue of breakthroughs. It was nice being in Vermont, visiting family, getting drunk like I was 21 again with a recently unengaged pal of mine, and just relaxing. And of course running marathon #3 but that’s a separate post.

I got a new freelance gig. A longer term thing, I applied to dozens other. But this one should work out – it’s a lot of work, erring on the side of nearly fulltime writing, but it’s helping me be a better writer. Granted, my first assignment was writing a lot of DIY websites on stuff that I really had no idea what to write about (for instance, how to install bi-fold french doors…I know right? I’m not exactly Tim the Toolman’s sister…). But regardless, it pays. It’s making me a better writer and for that I can’t ask much more can I? Now if I can just get better at managing my time.

I started my wedding invitations, fiance and I will be working on them more this weekend. They’re tedious but not nearly as difficult as I thought they’d be. Of course if I was smarter than the paper cutter I got from Michael’s – thank you Martha Stewart – work might get done faster. Also, yesterday my mom and I picked out her Mother of the Bride dress. This comes on the heels of finding out my step mother got her dress first but whatever.

I ran the marathon. I finished. I PR’ed (as per my tweets) and I was smiling the entire last two miles. Nothing made me happier than having my dad and beloved Papa cheering me on at the finish line. The only thing that could have made it better was if Fiance himself had been there. My knee is still a little sore, I’m going to give myself a few days before I decide if I’m going to do Philly or not in November but if I do? I’m shooting for a 5 hour marathon – crazy how in THREE marathons I went from 7:00:15 to 5:53:30 to 5:31:34. I mean…seriously, awesome.

In other news, my puppykins is nursing a sore leg. The little tank Molly got T-boned by a big ole yellow lab yesterday and hasn’t really put weight on her back leg since. I’m hoping and praying it’s a sore muscle and not a torn ACL because that will be expensive and well….we can’t afford any more major puppy costs, I want my dogs to stay healthy for a change!

In lieu of my training and nursing my own knee back to health, I’m taking up some yoga in my free time. I need something and in another week or two I’ll pick spinning back up. Need to keep on my weight loss roll so that I can schedule my fittings for the end of June.

All in all, aside from the annoying old lady I sat next to on the trip back to DC last night who kept elbowing me, it was an amazing trip home. There were definitely a few downer parts, but I’ll blog about those later.

I’m still focused on the fact that you knocked an hour and a half off of your marathon time! That is fabulous!

If you want a yoga class that will make you feel amazing…try a “hot yoga” or bikram yoga class. They will make you sweat out every toxin in your system (like the ones that apparently both of us have after a weekend of alcoholism) and it’s a great way to keep the pounds off. Congrats on life plans coming together…that’s the best!

Congratulations on finishing the marathon!! Isn’t it amazing how as soon as you finish you’re ready to start thinking about the next one.

Congrats on the marathon and the new freelance gig! I’ve never ran a race before, and it sounds like something I should give a shot at. (But I hate running…) And the freelance sounds like it is interesting, even if you don’t know how to do some of the stuff you have to write about.

    Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the marathon. I’m going to sign up for one that is about a year from now as motivation to lose the baby weight after I give birth in August. Is it going to be as hard to run one as I think it will be?
