Memoirs R Us?

by Heidi on March 10, 2009

I don’t get it. I don’t understand how a fifteen year old can write a memoir. I mean, by 15 I had kissed two boys, been to three different high schools, and lived through my parent’s divorce but I don’t deem those as worthy memoir material. Granted she’s some sort of teen idol and has had a “abnormal” childhood (rather…not ordinary), but can a 15 year old really write an “inspiring” memoir?

Somehow Miley Cyrus managed to snag this book deal? Who knows. Having millions of tweens idolizing you certainly does not a good writer make. Personally, despite the decade between us, I don’t think I’d find her at all inspiring even if I was 15.

In the book she “dedicates an entire chapter in the tome to “Prince Charming” — whom she won’t name but is clearly Nick Jonas. She reveals that she wooed her first love by recommending they sing a duet from “The Jungle Book” together. When their relationship bit the dust she penned “7 Things I Hate About You” in his honor.” [NY Daily News]

Wow! So her lil puppy love thing with one of the Jonas Brothers got a whole chapter? I wonder how long it is – I mean…really. What’s she going to say? He wouldn’t hold my hand so we broke up? So what are the other chapters about?

There’s something to be said about our society pulling something like this and making it a big deal- I mean is it any wonder that Britney is the way she is these days – breakdowns and all – after the way she was idolized, objectified and scrutinized for the past ten years? It’s scary to think that Miley Cyrus could go that way if she continues down this already well beaten path.

I worry that as a society, we objectify celebrities too easily and too often. The thing I think we all forget (and I’m guilty too) is that these stars are real people too, so if that’s the case? To what degree should we really be idolizing them? Especially stars like Paris Hilton (I pity anyone who idolizes her), Heidi Montag (is she a star??), Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus, the cast of the High School Musicals, etc…etc…They’ve hardly done anything…worthy of being idolized. I mean are these the people that girls like my twelve year old cousin are going to look up to???

If so then I’m sad for our youngest generation. Very sad.

my favorite is always how she talks about her “first true love” etc…. YOU’RE NOT EVEN OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL! i mean i know we all thought the guy we loved back then was The One and no one else would ever come close but it bothers me to hear people interview her and not remind her she’s got a lot of life ahead of her.

do her explicit photos get a chapter too?

Amen to this. It’s sad when people get so caught up in celebrities that they forget they are just people.

$10 says it is gonna be on the bestsellers list whenever it’s released. That makes me sad.

I think it’s pretty similar to blogging, but she’s famous so people are interested enough to pay money for it.

The point isn’t that it’s something worth reading. The point is that a gazillion 13-year-old girls will buy this crap and Miley Cyrus, her creepy dad, and everyone else involved in the Hannah Montana circus will make tons of cash.

You people really have nothing else better to do then trash miley and other stars? Seriously, grow up.. im 17 and i act wayy older than you people. SO WHAT if she wrote a book? her life not yours. She can do what she pleases with it. I dont like Selena Gomez but you dont see me dissing on her like you low lifes. And for your information it was actually a good book. I read it! And i thought it was rather fasinating. It shows her struggle into becoming a big star she has become to be today. And can you honestly say that other teenagers dont have explict pictures of themselves?? come on people wake up and look at the world. Just because the pictures are not on magizines doesnt mean that other people dont. And i think shes a great inspiration. Shes human..she makes mistakes. Im pretty sure all of u have made your fair share of mistakes. So quit hating on people you know nothing about. Start living your life, and worry about your own kids or your own social life. Let miley live hers.
Its people like you who make people like Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan go to a complete mess. Are you really gonna do that to a 15 yr. old girl. Look at yourself in the mirror and think that a 17 year old girl is being more mature than you are.
