I learned from my last major breakup that I need to listen to my intuition. I'd been with my ex-fiance for four years when we split up, but we were in a huge rut and I just ignored my gut feeling that it wasn't as good as it should be. And then he ended it when he realized we were both settling. I should have seen it coming and not wasted so much time, but I learned the lesson. I know to trust my gut now, it has wisdom that I can't always put into words or understand but it's always right.

The breakup song I used to listen to a lot when I parted ways with my college boyfriend was "The Scientist" by Coldplay, and also "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down. And I feel a bit ridiculous about this but the song that struck a chord with me when I broke up with my fiance was "Tattoo" by Jordin Sparks. It was on the radio a lot at the time and always made me cry, and now it always reminds me of him.

interesting time for you to post this (or me to read it?). there is definitely a lot to be learned from a break-up, once you can realize that, like you said, just because they aren't "for you" doesn't make them a bad person in any way.
Hmm...favorite break up song. this winter I listened to "better in time" (leona lewis) a Lot. Gotta love her.

PS. Is it bad that I have songs like this for most of the guys from my past? There are a few Dashboards songs that remind me, along with a song by Chicago (love them!). Yes, this BNL song is also on my list...

This is a great post. I learned that it's not always about being right, just being understood. My last big breakup was so painful and heart wrenching, my heart is still missing a small piece. So many breakup songs got me through it. Some of my favorites were "Vienna" by The Fray, "Slow Dancing in A Burning Room" by John Mayer, and "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" by Stars (it's not as morbid as it sounds!)
