Giving up on Food

by Heidi on January 26, 2009

Okay not really. I swear I don’t have an eating disorder. Have y’all heard about those detox diets? The ones that range anywhere from 5-14 days?

Well, I decided as a new years resolution that I wanted to give it a shot once/month.

I’m starting my January detox today. Since it’s my first one, I auditted it a wee bit. I’m sticking with five days instead of the usual 7. I’m allowed to eat pretty much any fruits/veggies I want, along with fresh fish (we got salmon and tuna for tonight and tomorrow!), rice noodles and stir fry. Today has not been as hard as I anticipated – I’ve been drinking water like it’s my job, and eating lots of berries, I had bland brown rice for lunch and a salad. No pasta, sugar, caffeine or any sort of carb for this girl! This morning I had a banana and a glass of lemon water for breakfast…tonight we’re having salmon, rice, and probably some steamed veggies for dinner. I’ll end the night with some herbal tea and that’ll conclude day 1. Unfortunate that I made muffins with fresh blueberries yesterday for breakfast and can’t eat any of them *sigh* at least Fiancé will enjoy them well enough.

I wrote about it last night, giving background and will be tracking what I eat/drink/how I feel every day over at the Fitness blog. Feel free to leave comments about any previous detox experiences y’all have had and/or any tips!

In other news:

*There are a couple of AWESOME contests going on – Dana at Just Talk is giving away three Yummie Tummie Tank Tops. Enter here! And…Miss Musing is giving away a $100 Amazon gift card – enter here!

* Marathon training begins next week. Not sure I’m ready for it.

* Feeling much better from last week, I guess a relaxing weekend will do that to you – we had happy hour with my former roommate Friday night, picked out my bridesmaids dresses (to be presented on wednesday!) and my wedding gown (pictures wednesday!!) AND had drinks with my BM Liz and her fiancé Saturday, and then cleaned and went grocery shopping and had a nice dinner of 30 minute chili (and you don’t need a slow cooker!!) and salad. It was an incredibly fulfilling weekend and after last week? Was just what I needed.

* I am now obsessed with Yelp. Seriously, it’s a new addiction. Are you on there? Want to be friends? Friend me!

How was everyone else’s weekend???

You know I think I could give up food without a second thought. The only reason I ever eat is because I’m insanely bored. I may have to try one of these detox diets. My mom is doing one and it’s working well so far.

Hey! I’ll have those pictures emailed to you tomorrow. I was at home today with a fever and a crap voice, but for some reason the card reader in my laptop won’t work! :-( I could get pictures off of my blackberry, but the good ones of the dresses and you were on my actual camera, obviously, heh. I’ll upload them at work tomorrow. :-)

The stuff you mention eating/drinking doesn’t really sound much like a detox. Rather, it sounds like your simply eating healthy, proportionate meals. Regardless, good luck with it all.

I eat this stuff so you don’t have to.

That doesn’t sound like a bad detox at all, actually. The ones that drive me crazy are like, the all-broccoli-and-acai-juice ones.

    Good luck!

You had me until the whole “no caffeine” bit. Count this girl out, but I’m anxious to hear how it treats you!

But what are you going to eat at book group on Thursday?!

I bought Bikini Fit when I was in college, which is a book about a detox diet. I’ve never actually done one though. Good luck!

Does this mean you can’t drink Sangria tomorrow??

Good luck with the detox! Personally, keeping track of my eating has been so beneficial for me.
