Running for Good!

by Heidi on November 24, 2008

So this year I’m running the So Others Might Eat Trot for Hunger 5k. Apparently, one thing I didn’t realize upon planning this out, is that you’re supposed to raise money. I’ve never been good at asking others for bling, but I figure, since it’s the holiday season, despite the shitty economy, mayhaps people would give $1. Just $1.

I’m lucky enough that FiancĂ© and I have great friends, and great family and will have a great Thanksgiving regardless of whether we’re here in DC or if we were to trek North for the holiday. I’m incredibly thankful for this, for him, for my family, I also realize many others, are not quite as lucky as I am.

So it’s awesome that all this money, if i can raise some, will go to this organization making sure the less fortunate have a thanksgiving meal. It’s awesome that, my Church, also makes lunches once per month to donate to SOME, and had a food drive for them for Turkey Day.

So, dear freaders, I ask of you, and i hate asking for things but since it’s for a good cause, I’m sure you all understand – donate to my cause. My personal fundraising page is here so if you can give something, please do, I and the people who benefit from this, will be grateful for your generosity. If not, that’s okay too, I won’t judge :) But given that there are 214 subscribers in Google Reader – if each of you gave $1 that’s $214 that would go to charity…and using this blog to do something good for once (rather than my own self-righteous blabbering that I sometimes do) would be a pretty awesome thing. You can donate anonymously or not – I won’t judge but rather, email me if you do donate and on Friday, I’ll pick a person at random for a special $15 Gift Certificate from your choice of Borders/Amazon/Target! Though, if I could send some sort of thank you to everyone who donates (if anyone does) I would (my wallet isn’t big enough for that though :( )

Stay tuned here for pictures of the run, which I will be running with my pal M, and of course one of my favorite DC bloggers Sarah!
