Instead of boasting about what I want this week, I’m going to change it up given the Holiday. Most of you who know me well, know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s about family, and friends, and appreciation for what you have, being thankful for that which God gave you.
This year, I’m skipping out on the Fam’s festivities, not by choice obviously, but because Fiancé and I are saving for a weddin’ and well…there are plenty of other thanksgivings to be had.
So today, instead of what I want, I’m going to show you what I’m thankful for.
I’m thankful for this guy. He’s incredible, thoughtful, smart, funny, handsome, and treats me better than I deserve sometimes. He’s my best friend, and the love of my life. I am incredibly lucky to have found him, and even luckier that he picked me to marry.
Friends. New and Old. Near and Far. My friends are the greatest. I have dozens of pictures, but these two gals are two of my BM’s in the weddin’. Along with Liz, a great pal of mine. Then of course the gals from mah Book Club that I’ve been spending increasingly more time wth. Odd to think that two years ago I was so upset since I felt so lost and alone down here in DC, but through the book club, RCIA, and fiance and I just meeting new people, I finally feel…sociable again. Something it took me a long time to feel after moving down here. It’s like we toasted Friday night at the private party we were at – my pal MM insisted we toast upon getting our first drinks. I forget exactly what his toast was – either to friends or family. So I added the famous quote that I think comes from Sex and the City “and here’s to not only the families we’re born into, but also the ones we create for ourselves.” It almost drew a tear to my eye.
Family. They’re a little red necky. A little disjointed, quirky, and the other side of the family is just as dysfunctional. But I love them to death because they all have my back, they’ve supported me no matter what and they’re fun as shit. I wouldn’t be where I am today (ignoring the dead end job) without the support of my grandparents, mother, and my aunts and uncles when i decided to move to DC they were the ones encouraging me.
Mah Puppeh. She might be a bit destructive, incredibly neurotic, and sometimes a bit on the anxious side but she’s cute, loyal and loves to be close to me. This serves me well when I’m sad, need a cuddle, and when my feet are cold. She’s great. Nevermind the ripped up door frame/carpet/lineoleum/etc…
Our home. It’s ours. Though Fiance lived there for a good 9-10 months before I officially moved in, he’s let me help him in making it “our” place from day 1. It’s cozy, a little on the tiny side for two people and a dog with more energy than we know what to do with sometimes, but it’s ours.
Of course there are other things I’m thankful for – my job, my fabulous coworkers who keep me sane, being paid well enough to live comfortably and while I have to keep my shopping in check, I can still shop. I’m thankful that I have a loving family, and a loving family that I’ll be marrying into when September comes around. I’m thankful for my education, the opportunities I’ve had, and all the people I’ve met through them.
So Happy Thanksgiving week – I’ll switch out Monday wants to Friday wants for Black Friday this week before Fiance and I make an escapade to the Outlets – it’s my gift to myself for not going home. So stay tuned to hear all about my annual Black Friday shopping expedition. Each year I get up at the break of dawn (last year 5am with my aunt, uncle and cousin, the year before met my sister at the mall at 7am, this year I won’t be as cruel to Fiance but we’re treating puppy to a day at her daycare, going shopping then having a romantic date night that I hope will include some hot chocolate and ice skating on the Mall. o.O
What are you thankful for this holiday season???
**don’t forget to donate to my Turkey Trot cause if you can! I’ll be entering all who donate into a drawing for a $15 giftcard from Borders/Target or Amazon!
