Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

I love Gmail themes. I have my location set to Vermont so it’s been snowing a lot since i set my theme to “trees” but this afternoon after a short jaunt at the gym it was snowing for reals here too! Then i got this email. Thank you alert DC. The lil snow tuft at the top of my email just makes it all the more better.

Tonight’s going to be a great way to kick off the holidays - Fiancé and I are going with friends (my old roommate) to the Capitol Hill Club where they’re having Karaoke?!?! Republicans sing karaoke?!?! Really?! OLD Republicans?!?! Wooowwww. It should be fun.

Poor kid tweeted about his lost overcoat after an event downtown. Kind of sad for him - keys, a cashmere scarf and a merino wool overcoat all stolen. Crappy man. Crappy.

I digress, I was a bit excited to walk out back to the office from the gym only to see the snow. it makes me sadder that we’re not going north for the holiday next week, it makes me sad that I’m not going to look out my aunt’s back window towards Mallets Bay and see snow falling lightly just making everything so picturesque. It makes me even sadder that i won’t be able to go see the Christmas Tree Lighting on Church Street downtown and then grab a beer or two with the Tpup and Co. at Akes Place or JP’s (even though Fiancé HATES that bar…I love it. I love the trashiness of it. It’s so….divey. It’s fab.). I grew up with cold weather defining the holiday season, everyone here bitches about the weather, they bitch about the snow and god forbid people drive anywhere when there’s a few flakes coming. The world might just end. At least here in side the beltway.

So this weekend, I plan on enjoying this all while it lasts (which it won’t), listening to some Christmas tunes (i should probably buy some more christmas mp3’s because really my 5 song repeat won’t do), writing lots for Nano (i have about 15,000 words to write this weekend) and making the menu/shopping for Turkey day where my friends M & M from the gym will be joining us post Turkey Trot. I might be a bit depressed about not venturing north for Turkey day but really - i’m running a race, i have a beautiful home, i’m hosting good friends, and my fiancé is taking me shopping on black Friday, what more could a girl want right? I need to keep it all in perspective and be thankful for EVERYTHING and not dwell on what i’m missing.

Happy snowy Friday everyone!

Seriously, what is with Virginians and bitching about the snow? When we lived there, if there was even a little dusting of snow, the city of Virginia Beach would SHUT DOWN. And I am only exaggerating a little bit.

Then again, I am from the tundra of Michigan so the white stuff doesn’t bother me. We haven’t had snow in our part of Massachusetts yet and it is kiiiiilling me.

I also love gmail themes! I have the pink/cherry blossom one and some of the students who come into my office (I work at a university, and am 2 years older than they are/just finished my MA) always joke with me about how I love pink, and saw my gmail window open and were like, of course you have pink gmail!

Sounds like a funny evening :)

Isn’t this random snow doing a great job of getting us into the Holiday spirit?! :)

  4. My mom (who lives in Baltimore) blames the snow on me- I accidentally wore my underwear inside out…so apparently it’s my fault. (Although I always thought it snowed if you wore your pjs inside out….) But, you know- mom’s know best! Glad you’re enjoying the snow!

I’m republican and love karaoke if I drank enough. I don’t need the beer for the nerve; it helps my voice sound better.

    No, really!

    :)

  7. We hope that as we type you are singing your soul out at karaoke! And we have to concur with your sentiments on the whining about the weather inside the beltway. A flake of snow and it is like DefCon4, the end is near!

We are sorry you will be missing all the places you mentioned, and hope the holiday is still wonderful for you!

Sending you grins and giggles for a nice weekend,
    tp

Oooh, setting my g-theme to Vermont may be my next step. I had tree for awhile, then I changed it to “bus stop”–when it started snowing this afternoon, a snowman totally appeared! Gmail is SO SMART! I was seriously excited. It changed back to sunny after an hour or so. Sheesh, those gmail guys are so on their game. Love.

I’m so excited for wintery goodness! (said while looking at the twinkling Christmas lights she’s strung up in the apartment…)

Send some snow this way! I haven’t seen snow is SO long. My gmail theme is set to my town in Italia. They’ve gotten rain for the past few days, and it makes me sad. Really sad.
