I have to say, meeting you has been a serious highlight of my DC experience : )

In a lot of ways, I'm still in that place of waiting for my life to come together, and I had those same thoughts that once I moved here, and started a life and staked my place, it would just fall into place. It hasn't. But really, the journey has been a good one; the people I've met, the experiences I've had, and the mistakes I've made are all a part of the fabric. I wouldn't do it differently. Sometimes I think the easy, popular, jigsaw route is deceptive; nothing that simple can really be worth it.

Finns sometime soon, definitely.

I think everybody (hopefully) has a time in her life in which she "comes into herself," and realizes that it is actually wonderful to embrace her unique qualities and stand a little apart from the crowd. This happened to me when I went to music school and embraced what makes me, me. Different and wonderful.

I am surprised you would write such a thing. I went with a friend who was also late but instead of sitting at the bar tweetering, I went ahead and introduced myself to one of the bloggers. First of all half the people there were wearing things you could get at forever 21 or macys. They just know how to make an outfit look more expensive than it really is. It was a networking event and most of the girls hosting were nice enough to chat with people and even went out of their way to come and talk to me. Instead of sitting at a bar, tweetering and not giving people chances, you should have come out of your shell and mingled more. I don't really know the glamazon diaries girl but I think to blast her event on your blog and call people you don't know "bobos" is unfair.

Well said! I struggle with these same thoughts. I SHOULD have more friends than I do, I've been in Philly for two years. But I do have quality friends that I enjoy and that's enough. Now I just need to figure out how to men men!

I really related to this post. I am in college now, and all through high school, I always wanted to be popular. It just wasn't happening. Got to college, and it's really the same old crap. People don't change just because their environment changes. I am also learning to accept it, and just appreciating what I have!

Oh my gosh, the scene you described in the first paragraph? You sitting alone at the bar in a roomful of strangers? That is my worst social nightmare! I'm such an introvert and I absolutely loathe networking unless I have a pal as a buffer.

Major kudos to you for braving it!

Those people usually suck anyway :) I'm glad you're better off! And A-MAZING song by John Mayer... My favorite part is "I will marry just once..." I am counting on the fact that people like that still exist out there for me...

It's sad to admit, but I've only been to Finn's a handful of times in the four years I've lived here. I think we need to make a date to go there....
