Regularly scheduled blogging…back tomorrow

by Heidi on August 24, 2008

Fiance and I are planning on going somewhere this weekend. It likely will be a day trip – but i’m upset that it’s the end of summer and 1. i haven’t been to a beach. 2. i paid $40 for a bathing suit (and overnight shipping) and have only worn it once…and then got rained on. 3. sand? ocean? Where art thou???
So tubing is out because he doesn’t really want to float down a river with a 30 rack, Dewey or Rehoboth is an option but…not sure if we want it to be just the two of us (anyone want to go to the beach for a day??), parks are too far….and well…i’m out of ideas.

So for my fellow DC-ers….what are some good ideas for a day trip? I want sun. And water. I’m thinking maybe kayaking on the potomac (with a nice dinner?). At some point this weekend, I have an 11 mile run (preferably saturday am) and then a birthday bbq on Sunday and well monday is generally recovery day. But the run can moved to either Monday or Sunday…I just want sun. and water. If only so I don’t come out of summer as pasty as I began summer. That’s just far too depressing.

Thoughts DC-ers???

Eastern Shore?

Also if Friday night no longer works, no biggie! I know getting out of the city can be super fab, especially with the boy! :D

So I looked in my handy dandy Top 10 of Washington DC (yes, I have one of those) and it says the number 2 place day trip from DC is Harpers Ferry… It has water, but I’m not sure what else. I’ve seen pictures of Whiteoak Canyon and the waterfalls there look really pretty, but it’s more of a hikey kind of thing…. middleburg is awesome and has great food, but I don’t know about the water thing.

Hope you find somewhere awesome!

virginia beach? I haven’t been, but its supposed to be nice, and lots of fun. also, the new washingtonian magazine has a big section on day/weekend trips and they talk about all the wineries in va, so you could head to a few of those, and there are a bunch over in the eastern shore area too that are fun.

I’m too late to weigh in on this…but my vote would have been to reconsider tubing. Three hours of floating in the sun? What’s not to love? (Of course, the last time I did this, there was a major environmental catastrophe reported in that river that we hadn’t heard about, so that was a bit of a bummer…)

What did you end up doing?

I finally discovered you, even though I’m pretty sure we read and comment on the same blogs. And you’re a fellow DC-ite : ) that is always exciting! Love the blog!
