The mission…

…find new sneakers.

I ran about 3 miles last night and felt a searing pain in my calves and knees. I realized that it’s probably because i’m wearing the wrong type of sneaks. Seriously wrong. I had gone to Pacers the other day after work during my lil trip to Clarendon and discovered that I was wearing the wrong type of sneakers. Whoops. No wonder I have runners knee. That’ll do it…right?

But, since my credit card was mia, and I wasn’t sure what our account was like, i didn’t buy them. Not to mention, I was undecided on which $95 pair of sneaks I liked best. I may or may not have picked the last ones because they were pink and had nike + capabilities. But i ran one marathon in them so they didn’t do too bad…aside from giving me runners knee that is…

I did however, find out that I slightly over-pronate, which, after my run last night, explained all that pain.

So after being shown a few good pairs at Pacers, I think I’m going to go to City Sports, where i can get 10% for “being a student” (cough cough) and the sneakers I think I want appear to be on sale…for $65 (as opposed to $95). Unfortunately, much to my girly dismay, these are not pink. Nor do they have the nike + capability (not a deal breaker..but nice to not have to worry about it falling out) These are the likely winners…

These Brooks sneakers or…

These Nikes.

Woo! Yay new sneaks! Will probably pick them up tomorrow afternoon after work before I meet up with Fiancé tomorrow night for drinks with pals. Hooray!

For you running gals – what’s your favorite pair of sneaks? Did you get fitted for them or pick them on a whim?

GO FOR THE BROOKS!! You will never buy another running shoe. I have had 5 pairs and I will probably never switch. I always have Pacers fit me for others to compare when I’m ready for new ones, but I always go with the Brooks Adrenaline. They are the BEST!

I was having knee pain, and needed to replace my running shoes, so I went to get fitted at the running store at Pentagon Row. They looked at my stride and gave me a bunch of shoes to try on to correct my problems. I wound up with a pair of Saucony, which I love, for about $85.

I totally love the Clarendon Pacers. I’m not a serious runner by ANY stretch, but that’s where I got my running shoes … they were so helpful and informative! I wear Sauconys, which I had seriously never heard of, but I really like them.

Shoes are one of the most important things to me. I always have to get new shoes when I wear them out or I end up with shin splints or problems with my knees/arches. GOod luck.

I went to a running store where they tape you running on a treadmill then examine how you run to pick out shoes for you. Unfortunately, I got little say in the color, as they basically handed me hundred dollar shoes and said, “Buy these.”

I’m glad I did, though, because they basically alleviated my shin splints. Yay new shoes!

I need new sneakers REALLY bad. My shox hurt my feet so freakin much. I’ve been wearing my old volleyball shoes, but they aren’t great either.

I swore by Nikes for 15+ years, and just switched to Asics. I’m in love.

Anyway, a couple things that help me: size up 1/2 size and buy the extra padding inserts for the sneakers. Extra cushion is good.

Second, get thee to a gym and lift weights for your legs once a week. Just some standard stuff – quads / hamstrings / calves, and if you are really feeling industrious, sit in front of a machine that has a pull (smith machine, cable cross) and put a long bar on the clip, like you’re going to do lat pulls. But put the bar across the toe part of your sneakers and pull towards you. Does wonder for keeping the muscles strong to ward off pain and splints.

Nothing makes me happier than a new pair of shoes…any kind of shoes. :)

I have the brooks. I also wear lyncos orthotics because I have super high arches. I like the brooks because they feel light and comfy on my feet. They’ve been good on my knees and hamstrings, but I still– even with orthotics– have trouble with my heels and arches, although at this point I don’t know if any shoe would help.

P.S. My dad is a shoe guy (manages a shoe store, and is a certified pedorthist (fits people for orthotics)) and says that Nike running shoes basically suck these days. They used to be good, but they’ve gone steeply downhill.

Oh man, P.S. again, I got my last pair of Brooks on amazon.com. They were only $47

I got my sauconys at marathon sports fitted just be I have wicked shin splints. But the personalized attention was really nice.

    I like the NIKES!!!
    Get those!

I love BROOKS!! In fact, I bought two pairs of the exact same model because I liked them so much.

I’m training for a marathon (crazy, I know), and the shoes haven’t failed me yet. No pain or anything.

DEFINITELY buy what the running store people suggest. I had to buy some purple shoes once and it about killed me b/c I don’t like purple, but you’re feet, legs, hips and body in general will appreciate it if you wear shoes that are made for your running style and pronation.

I’m a Brooks girl through and through, so if they suggested a Brooks pair for what your run is like, I totally recommend them. I probably won’t ever run in anything else. I buy Brooks running shorts, too! They know how to make things.

And I know Nike is trying to get caught up in the running craze, but I still don’t think they’re really up to par with all the other running shoes.

I JUST bought a new pair of running shoes. I bought a pair of black and pink Saucony running shoes. I love them! Super light on my feet and make me feel like I’m running on clouds.
