Summer Reading…

by Heidi on June 24, 2008

Mad Props to the Playful Professional who posted her Summer Reading List for the Summer Reading Extravaganza. I love a reading challenge – I participated in the Spring Reading Thing and loved the challenge of trying to finish all the books. This list is slightly smaller but has the ones that I didn’t finish in the spring with a few newbies that I have yet to purchase but have been dying to for quite some time. I don’t read in this particular order – I just started “the Other Woman” by Jane Green the other day and LOVE it so far. It’s very interesting to get a handle on Mother-in-Law and daughter relationships when I’m still building that relationship with my own future mother in law.

So here’s my list of summer reading :)

1. We’re just like you only prettier by Celia Rivenbark
2. Tabloid Love by Bridget Harrison started 8.27.08
3. The Perfect Manhattan by Leanne Shear finished 7.21.08
4. You’re Not You by Michelle Wildgen
5. Stop dressing your 6 year old like a skank by Celia Rivenbark
6. Jule and Julia by Julie Powell finished 7.17.08
7. Frenemies by Megan Crane*
8. Names My Sister Calls me by Megan Crane*
9. Not Tonight Honey, Wait Until I’m a Size 6 by Susan Reinhardt
10. My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler finished 8.2.08
11. P.S I love you by Cecelia Ahern finished 7.25.08
12. Bless Your Heart Tramp and other Southern Endearments by Celia Rivenbark
13. The Devil In the Junior League by Linda Francis Lee finished 7.30.08
14. Marley & Me by John Grogan
15. The Last Summer of You and Me by Ann Brashares finished 8.16.08
16. Swapping Lives by Jane Green finished 8.11.08
17. The Other Woman by Jane Green finished 6.25.08
18. The Big Love by Sarah Dunn finished 8.15.08
19. Moose by Stephanie Klein finished 8.26.08
20. Man of My Dreams by Curtis Sittenfeld*

What are YOU reading this summer???

* indicates books that still need to be purchased and thus will wait until later this summer.

Swapping Lives was great! I have several Jane Green books in my “to read” pile right now, including The Other Woman…they were all bookmooched!

I should make my own list….

I heard “Tabloid Love” is good. I’ve been meaning to check it out.

I don’t know yet… I still need to update my goodreads. I’m impressed at this list, though. I haven’t read anything on it.

i’m reading “love the one you’re with” by emily griffin. i’m probably way behind on this trend, but it was cheaper than my jennifer weiner book so i bought it. “certain girls” will definitely be next though!

and i saw that “stop dressing your kid like a skank” book on the bargain shelf at B&N. i laughed out loud.

What do the astericked books mean? I think I shall make a trip to the library tomorrow to look at some of these books. I definitely judge books by their titles and covers…

Okay so I just saw the title “Not Tonight Honey, Wait Until I’m a Size 6″ and started laughing out loud. Oops. That’s exactly how it is too. I may have to pick that one up. Looks like a great list; I may have to steal a title or two this summer if I make it through my bookshelf.

I read “Names my Sisters Call Me” a few weeks ago – I loved it! Good choice.
I plan on finishing reading Jennifer Weiners books soon. I only have 2 to go! Aside from that my summer reading will be limited to a giant Environmental Science textbook.

I may have to find a copy of Stop Dressing Your 6-Year-Old Like a Skank, just because I’m so amused by the title. Good list!

Let me know how Marley & Me goes. I want to read that too! I’m re-reading a lot of books this summer and so far it is going great.

I really loved The Myth of You and Me; I read it this fall. It was a really beautiful story of friendship lost and re-found.

All of your books look like real winners. I might steal this list for my own summer reading!

You’ll enjoy the Chelsea Handler books. She writes like she speaks. I just finished My Horizontal Life and giggled throughout the entire thing. Right now I’m working on Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand, moving to I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight by Margaret Cho, then One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Angela’s Ashes because I want at least a couple decent non-fluffy books!!

I love Jane Green and all of her books. Although, I was not that impressed with Swapping Lives. All good beach reads though.
