Things I’m Contemplating Today…

by Heidi on June 11, 2008

* Do tourists really wear deodorant? I mean people – on a crowded metro train, with 100 degree weather with horrid humidity, I know it’s going to smell bad but if you don’t know how to use a roll on? For the sake of me and the other hygiene friendly people, please please…keep your arm down. Yes I’m talking to you sweaty old man who may or may not be homeless. And you too father of four with sweat pouring down your face.

* 200 people for a wedding? Maybe 250…is that really reasonable?? I didn’t think i knew that many people!

* When i begin the dress shopping fiasco, what happens if i find my shoes first? I mean i want an a-line, strapless gown with a sash (no beads. I hate beads. I want simple silk or satin..)  to match my bridesmaid dresses – my sister and boyfriends sister will be wearing green and my pals will be wearing pink. I want a pink sash and green shoes? Maybe? Maybe everyone should wear green or pink? I think i like pink better. but not obnoxious pink…salmony pink. (this is me already going crazy)

* How soon after we engaged do we start getting gifts? Man i can’t wait to redo my kitchen!!! Spice rack, standing mixer and new dishware galore!!!

* Two days of delays on the metro getting home SUCKED. Tonight i have to work at job #2…it better not take THREE trains to get on at L’enfant. For those of you non-rush hour commuters? Bless you for not having to put up with this CRAP.

* $79 + fees for Coldplay at the verizon center? Mildly redonkulous considering I didn’t even want to pay $60 to see John Mayer & Ben Folds at the Verizon Center. I Don’t think Coldplay will be seeing my bling.

* Crate and Barrel v. Bed Bath and Beyond? Macy’s v. Bloomingdales (i think I’ll be a macy’s girl if only for the martha stewart line…) ? Amazon v. not amazon (ummm martha stewart cook books anyone??)? These are the things boyfriend and I talked about while watching Hells Kitchen last night. Gawd you’d think we were already engaged. But….we’re not. (he did however speak with my mother last night…)

* Where can i find this line? I found her in the Express this morning and fell in love with the pictures they put in there. She’s like Lily Pulitzer with a twist…I’ve fallin’ in love with the Palm Beach styles of Lily and JCrew…now if only I could afford such nice things :( Speaking of Lily… I just talked myself out of buying a super cute shirt for $40 – need to save money and it’s either that or a bathing suit but not both *sigh*

Enough out of me…I need to stop thinking about my hopeful pending nuptials (seriously it’s kept me from sleeping…the anticipation is KILLING ME!!! You hear that boyfriend…KILLING ME!!!! Maybe not killing me but at the very least keeping me from getting good nights sleep thus not running…) and you know…get some work done since thats what I’m getting paid to do. Not peruse The Knot….

Good LORD, woman! You are more on top of this than most women I know who are engaged and/or about to marry!! (And definitely taking this farther than I did when I was engaged. I was just like – I WANT IT TO BE OVER AND BE ON MY HONEYMOON NOW, KTHXBAI. Not really – I loved getting stuff. And I loved having TONS of people at my wedding.)

I’m all about Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Lemme tell why: No reciepts needed for returns. And you can return stuff and get new stuff using your 20% off coupons. UNLIMITED. Amazing. I loved it.

(I also registerd at Target instead of Macys. Call me cheap or tacky. But, really, I friggin love that place.)

We invited 300 and about 200 to 250 are expected to show. We, however, have a semi-destination wedding (neither of our families live where we are getting married) so more people are expected to not come than at a normal wedding.

My colors are pink and green too! With orange accents. But they are brighter than what I think you are looking for…either way, you will find lots of stuff in these colors. However, you will probably change your mind about what you want 19375 times. Especially since you are already planning :)

I did Crate and Barrel AND Bed Bath and Beyond. CB for dishes, glasses, etc., and they are BEAUTIFUL…we just started getting them at my shower and in the mail last week. Then we did BBB for more gadgety type stuff (chopper, grater, things like that), towels, bathroom accessories, etc. Then Target for appliances.

Looooove Village Palm, they always have really good Lilly sales. So does In the Pink, have you checked them out?

I did Target and BB&B. BB&B mostly for As Seen on TV b/c I’m addicted to infomercials :)

Okay, I think the dress is way more important. Look for that first before you think of shoes. People are going to be looking at you, not just your feet.

Tory Burch can be found online at http://www.shopbop.com, or at Saks, Bergdorfs, Bloomies, etc. She’s famous for her fabulous flats.

Don’t talk to me about sweaty tourists. Jesus, I live in Orlando. But, it’s usually the foreigners who smell. Not to generalize, but seriously, I’m not sure that people in the UK have the same deodorant as us/shower as often. eek. Nothing worse than standing in line for an hour near one. Well, maybe being packed in the metro comes close.

I vacation with 70 family members on my dad’s mother’s side alone, so I have no choice but to have a fairly large-ish wedding…that doesn’t bother me though.

you are too funny. i would save all the stressing for AFTER the actual engagement ;)

My husband said that metro trains have derailed at the Courthouse metro (my metro) the past few days. That’s normally the train he takes to meet me after work, and it’s just been completely closed so I pick him up in Pentagon City instead.

  • http://www.newlyweddedwife.com Laurie

Please! No more metro delays – I can’t take anymore either!

I registered at 3 places – gives the guests options!

  • http://duwaxloolu.blogspot.com Jess

Okay, be careful though because if you are already thinking 250 then the guest list is going to BALLOON. Seriously, we started off thinking 50 and ended up inviting 150. And it always works like that. There are always more people that you forget about.

Also, we didn’t have an engagement party or anything so we have not gotten any gifts yet. Our registry is neglected. I don’t think you really get gifts until a few months before the wedding at the earliest. But maybe it’s just our particular group of guests.

Heehee… I won’t lie – I think about a lot of such things from time to time in my daydreams, and I don’t even have a serious b’friend right now. Which means I’m not stressing… so maybe I can plan everything and then meet the man and therefore not stress when the times comes. Haha. What I’m trying to say is that we’re girls and it’s just fun to daydream about weddings. Have fun with it.

I’d suggest that you not get ahead of yourself.

Don’t pick your color scheme, dress or any other details until you’ve set a date and budget, and booked a location. Your knee-length cotton candy pink bridesmaids dresses might look silly in a hotel ballroom in teh dead of winter, or your floor-length ballgown might look silly at a summer clambake.

I went to see Coldplay at the Verizon Center the last time they were there and I got lucky and got floor tickets at a good price because ticketmaster F*&K up big time. But the sound wasn’t really good. I don’t know if it was the Verizon Center or Coldplay’s sound engineer but I was bumming! I did see them in Madison Square Garden though, and that was super awesome!

bed bath & beyond all the way for registering! i work there so there are quite a few tips i can give you (plus coupons if you ever so need some) you get free returns on any items purchased off of your registry…meaning you get CASH money back. no questions asked. so if you register for a $400 dyson and then you decide you don’t want it….bring it back and get the dough. pretty sweet deal.

Honestly, I don’t think there is anything wrong with having dress, shoes, bridal party outfits, etc. all picked out before you set a date or even get engaged. It’s just you getting excited. No harm in that. I’m mean of all the things that you will end up compromising on, don’t compromise your outfit because that is THE most important decision. But that’s not saying you’re going to go out and find the most expensive Badgley Mischka dress. I’m just saying, if you happen the find the right dress (and the right shoes), buy them!
    :o D

Oh, but I wouldn’t start buying bridal magazines. No, no. When I worked at a bookstore, I would flip through them for hours. They will drive you crazy (in more ways than one), so don’t go near them yet or maybe at all.

Oh my god it’s coming! I feel like I’ve seen all of my blogger girls going through the engagement and weddings…. Clink, Molly, KLC, Mirium, now YOU!

  • http://magdathunder.wordpress.com magda

You are so cute, Heidi. So cute. And I’m glad to see that someone else gets crazy planning things before they happen! Be sure to take time to breathe, though … and sleep. Sleep is good : )

I won’t lie; I spent about two hours yesterday morning looking at reception possibilities! Ha! I have some ideas, though still plenty more decisions are up in the air.

I’d do Crate and Barrel…I also love Williams Sonoma, but Steve hates it. I also recently discovered a design at Pfaltzgraff that I love…and their prices are very reasonable.

  • http://naysmusings.blogspot.com Renee

I am SO GLAD I’m not the only soon-to-be-engaged that is already thinking about this stuff. My mom mentioned a place in town that’s really reasonable for a reception but will only allow 200… and I’m thinking IS THAT BIG ENOUGH?!?!?!

  • http://www.nicoleantoinette.wordpress.com nicoleantoinette

Um, I’m so excited for you to be engaged.

  • http://zandria.us/ Zandria

Ew…stinky tourists! Why would they want to visit when it’s so gosh-darned hot anyway?

At least there’s only one weekday left! Maybe you’ll be able to avoid them better on the weekend. :)

  • http://www.ihatesomuch.com/ Maxie

I can say that when I come to DC as a tourist I definitely don’t wear any deodorant. Or underwear. And i wear a fanny pack.

    hahaha
