In honor of today…here are my thoughts on administrative professionals day…

For starters, here are the pro’s and con’s to being an admin assistant..

The Pro’s…

1. Sometimes? You get to sit around and do nothing when there’s not much work
2. Those big crisis’ at work? Usually not your problem
3. Low stress for the most part

The cons?

1. Low pay.
2. Did i mention low pay?
3. What’s next? Super admin? Gah I hope not.
4. I WANT to work hard…i just…my job is too easy sometimes
5. God i hate answering phones…

There you have it kids.

UPDATE: This just in…I got flowers from my office. Okay this isn’t such a bad day after all….

Awww yay!

Happy Administrative Professionals Day to all my pals out there that are administrative professionals like myself. Administrative professional is really just a pretty title for a shit job. Amirite?

Anyhow….what are the pros and cons of YOUR job??

Another pro of being an admin, at least in my experience: You get to know what’s going on in the office, because everything filters through you at some point. Good for gossip.

I used to be an Admin. Assistant so I feel your pain. But I got a promotion and it wasn’t to Super Admin!

Pros of my job (research assistant for the CTN – with substance abusers):
I get to work with fascinating people – both my clients and the PIs and my fellow RAs.
I make decent money
I’ve learned a heck of a lot about drugs and am glad I never went down that route.
I go to some pretty cool conferences/meetings
I’ve been promoted a couple of times and my work is valued.
The feeling I get when someone thanks me for taking the time to help them when no one else did.
We’re usually super busy

Cons:
9 times out of 10 I can’t trust my clients
I have to do drug screen tests and observe them giving a sample – not glamorous
I spend a lot of time driving around (this will change in July hopefully)
I don’t get a special holiday :(

Pros -

1. I get paid to play and color and laugh and tickle. (I work in a preschool classroom).

2. I work with and am supported by a fantastic team comprised of teachers, PT, OT, SLP, and a prinicipal.

3. Every day presents a new set of challenges (I work one on one with a four year old nonverbal hyperlexic autistic boy).

4. I get all the vacations and days off as an educator!

5. My little guy is freakin’ brilliant!! He surprises me every day with what he can do.

Cons -

1. Low pay.

2. Every day presents a new set of challenges. :P

3. I can be kicked, hit, head butted. It’s rare, but it still happens.

4. I don’t get paid for any of the items listed in Pro #4.

I’m sure there are others, but I wanted to say HI before I rush out the door.

The flowers are pretty and at least you didn’t get chocolate or cupcakes or something to make you fat. Or “sit and spread” as it happens from sitting all day ;)
