I finally finished “Eat Pray Love” last night around 1am. For a while, after dinner, while we ate dessert, boyfriend, his parents and myself were all at the table – his father on the laptop, boyfriend and his mom reading the Sunday Post, and me reading my book. It was probably one of my favorite parts of the weekend.
But my thoughts on the book? If you haven’t read it…go. Read it. Now. Seriously. The inspiration that other people say they got from this book? They weren’t lying. The book is littered with quotes that jiggle your brain and make you think about your own view on pleasure, prayer and balance. She adds a new perspective to life, in ways that most people don’t stop to think about. It is through her search for prayer in India that I inspected my own religious views and my own prayer habits. Part of reading this book…dare I say, made me a better Catholic by thinking about prayer, meditation and the like.
Does that sound cheesy?
I mean everyone has their own views on pleasure, prayer and balance, but few, I think, can share it so vividly and capture it so well with words and metaphors that just make sense.
I loved it. I have pages where I found inspiration dog earred. I plan on making my own mother, sister and other friends read it ASAP because me? I gained a sense of happiness from reading it. I inspected my own thoughts and feel that because of that, I have a better grasp on what I want from my life in terms of happiness.
No I didn’t buy a plane ticket to paradise. Or Italy. If i had the credit? I probably would. This is perhaps also why I did not jump into “Under the Tuscan Sun” right away.
Next? I’m reading “Unpredictable” by Eileen Cook. I’m going to review it as soon as I’m done, and send off my copy to share with another lucky blogger. Details in the coming days how that’ll be determined.
