Help for Susie Homemaker (in training)

by Heidi on March 11, 2008

Since i love love you bloggers…I need help.

I hijack a lot of cooking ideas from you gals…specifically the girls over at wearenotmartha, julieq, and RA mostly. But for others of you who cook…where do you get your recipes? what are your favorite food/recipe blogs?

To share…for your Irish/St.Pattys Day (early) pleasure…since I hijack from so many of you all :) I figured I’d share the wealth!
Irish Soda Bread

6 c. Flour

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 c. sugar

1 tsp salt

1 c. raisins (or more if you like)

1/2 stick margarine softened

3 1/2 c. buttermilk (i used half buttermilk and half skim because i ran out of buttermilk…it turned out lighter than soda bread usually is)

2 – 9x5x3 loaf pans greased and floured

directions

Sift first five ingredients together. blend in margarine. add raisins. add buttermilk to make a medium soft dough. knead or mix until spongy.

Dough will be a little on the wet side before baking.

Please in greased and floured pans. Bake for 1 – 1 1/2 hour until done. Knife inserted into center should come out dry. Top may be brushed with milk for a softer crust. makes it easier to cut.
