Bless you snow gods

by Heidi on February 21, 2008

Now, I grew up in Vermont so my definition of snow storm is a bit different than the definition here in DC.

I mean, when I talk to my family, they’re talking about “oh another 8-12 inches tomorrow. We just got 10 inches. is winte over yet?!?!” They’re not to happy about the load of white stuff that mother nature has dumped on them, quite honestly though, I miss the snow.

So tonight, I will pray to my snow gods.

The snow is supposed to start around 10pm tonight and change over to freezing rain/sleet tomorrow morning. My office unfortunately, does not follow the Federal Government which is generally what the standard is around here in DC. So I’ll get up early and run to the window to see if it snowed and then I’ll call my voicemail and pray like I did as a little girl that the Snow Gods will be on my side. For those of you who don’t who the Snow Gods are…they are the gods that make it snow. That make the snow stick, that make it keep snowing so plow trucks can’t keep up. They make our lives happy by rewarding us with snow days. Bless them tonight before bed, for I think we could all use a snow day tomorrow.

Personally? I’d really like a snow day…if only to go to the gym at a decent hour tomorrow. And to not be bogged down with…now…BRUNCH invitations for this god damned party my boss has got me planning. I was going to say helping but if I had my way I would not be helping. I would not be organizing RSVP lists. I would be going to hearings and briefings and tracking legislation which I got to work on today. Regardless, snow storm or not, I still have to work at the gym tomorrow night which unfortunately closes but two days a year, Christmas and Thanksgiving. We are open rain, shine, snow, sleet, hurricane and all the inbetweens. So bless your local front desk greeter at the gym because they work hard to ensure you can work out no matter what.

Oh, I am tottaally praying. I didn’t even realize it was supposed to snow so “badly” until I was on the way home. Ha.

And luckily, if the gov shuts down tomorrow so does my office. So… needless to say that’s what I’m hoping for.

Aww we NEVER have snow in LA!
I’m usually praying for more sunshine so I can work on my tan because when I look tan, it’s almost like faux-skinny!

Snow day! Snow day! It doesn’t take much for the panic to start in DC. I noticed a surge of people stocking up on bottled water and firewood at the grocery store tonight…

I’m praying to the snow gods for you!! But only in DC. I’m dogsitting for my aunt and uncle’s dogs starting tomorrow and if it snows too much here, their flight will be cancelled. And I could really really use the money!

This just makes me want to move to DC sooner.
Hate the snow. It seems to fall on days when I have plans that involve FLYING IN A PLANE TO ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY.

Stupid.

Also- I used be a front desk worker at BSC. I opened which meant 5am!

I wish today was a snow day, too. I feel like snuggling up and watching movies all day long!
