by Heidi on February 13, 2008

So, here’s the dealio, Boyfriend and I are going to a wedding on March 1.  The dress? Black-tie optional. I need a dress. Yes, I know I gave up shopping for Lent but well…I have no black tie optional dresses.  At the same time? I don’t even know where to LOOK for a black-tie optional dress…hell, I don’t even know what it MEANS!!!

So readers, help a sister out???

Suggestions, stores, etc…are all welcome at this point in time :)

Hm, I would say a dress for a black tie optional event would be like a nice cocktail dress? Knee length? You could probably get a totally appropriate dress at any department store like Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc. And once you find a few options you should totally post them on your blog so we can all vote!

yes, white house black market! there is one at union station, and I’ve found a few great dresses there for weddings, both under $50!

I’d go to a dept store: Macys, Nordys, Filenes maybe? I got my last black tie optional dress at Macys, if I had an unlimited budget I would have gone to Nordstom for sure though…

I agree with White House Black Market…they usually have really cute yet not extremely expensive stuff, and it’d be totally appropriate for a black tie-optional wedding. Plus, if you get a dress that’s knee length, you can dress it up or down and wear it again and again and again. Good luck!

I was just at WHBM shopping they had tons of dresses that were so cute, and on sale! That’s in Atlanta, but I’m sure you can find something perfect for the wedding. Macy’s is always hit or miss for me in terms of dresses.

    J. Crew, of course. And as people also mentioned, White House Black Market has amazing dresses.
I also once found a floor length merlot Ralph Lauren dress at a Macy’s sale. It was a size up, but I took it to a tailor and he pulled it all in for me. Total cost? Thirty dollars.
