My logic = severely flawed

by Heidi on February 8, 2008

So I have a double edged sword on my plate right now.

If you all remember back here, one of my [many] resolutions was…to drop 20 lbs by April-Juneish.

I’ve lost about 4-6.

Depending on my Dr.Pepper intake.

Then? My brilliance factor remembered, about the time when I was trying to decide what to give up for Lent…that I could give up caffeine (aka Dr.Pepper in Heidiland) and drop that 20 lbs because soda = sodium = water retention = the weight that’s sitting on my ass that won’t go anywhere (not that I’m religious about my gym attendance or anything…cause i’m not.)

But me without caffeine?

Not a pretty sight. When we were in Vermont a few weeks ago, I neglected to have my daily intake and was bombarded with the worst headache that I’ve ever had. Crying, pinching, whining…all because my mother only stocks freakin’ Caffeine. Free. Diet Pepsi.

SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL THE POINT CAFFEINE FREE SODA HOLDS IN THIS WORLD???

Because there is still JUST as much sugar and sodium. So the calories you told yourself you’d be saving? Eff that man.

I digress. So now I have this dilemma. Because I really want to drop this weight. Especially after finding that my new pants FIT! ME! (albeit a little tightly in the waist arena but I’m working on it!
But without these 24 oz Dr.Pibbs/Peppers in the AM hours, I struggle to get through the day. And coffee to me is just as bad since I usually have 7 splendas with a side of coffee. Thankyouverymuch.

So to my readers – before I throw my slow ass computer out the window today zomg I hate Lag! – what are you suggestions for kicking/changing a caffeine addiction??? (my blog title does not lie…)

P.S. Don’t forget about the DC 20sb happy hour tonight!!! 6:30p. Recessions. Be there.

caffeinated tea and weening yourself off

i was that coffee drinker too, and then i switched to caffeinated tea so I could still get the caffeine buzz, after which I started to go from 3 cups to 1.5 cups to 1 cup to de-caf

it’s gradual, but it works. and I went a good 6 months without ANY caffeine.. which, now? is all sorts of amazing to me.

I second Deutlich’s comment – make a 5-6 week plan to wean yourself to less (or no) caffeine. That way your body won’t go into shock.

You can do it!

Okay, seriously. I am in the same boat, with Pepsi. I don’t drink coffee, pop is the only caffeine I get. I also think it would help me drop a few pounds because I too am trying to lose about 20 pounds. Ugh. I hate it.

I would suggest tea also. I’ve definitely become a fan of morning tea and it does help me wake up a bit.

Good luck! :)

I thought briefly about giving up coffee for Lent. Then I realized that was RIDICULOUS!

Oh honey I decided yesterday that I wasn’t going to have anymore coffee…yeah lent. Today is my second day and my head is KILLING me!!!

All I can suggest is…water. water.water. & chocolate chip cookies but then that would defeat the weight loss part.

Let me know what works for you. I’m just hoping that going cold turkey will work.

Withdrawal is a real bitch! But what I love about Lent is I always stick to it. That Catholic guilt consumes me if I don’t!

Tea is the way to go, for sure. Also? You wonder what the point of a caffeine free soda is and I wonder what the point of a DIET SODA IS.

This is a tuffy. I gave up caffeine 2 years ago and I’m really glad I did. It was pretty hard to get used to, but once I did it was easy. Well I kind of take that back, I gave up soda. I still drink Starbucks and such. But anyways, tea does help! And I did lose weight because I gave it up.

When I sucessfully ditched soda (it lasted for six months, I have since fallen off the wagon) I took Excedrin Tension Headache in the morning instead of drinking a Mt. Dew. Excedrin has caffeine in it. After about a week of that, I would only take the Excedrin at the first signs of a headache. It worked for me because I can’t just CUT BACK on soda, I love it too much. It was all or nothing for me. Of course, as I type this, I am drinking Mt. Dew. :-)

Oh, it’s so much worse than you know. Diet soda causes metabolic syndrome – one can a day will do it. You’re on your way to being overweight, having high blood pressure and diabetes coming down the pike. And even worse, caffeine makes your blood sugar spike so even though you’re not consuming calories with either coffee or diet soda, it’s harder to lose weight because of your blood glucose level is high.

Sorry for the bad news.

I used to drink so many Mountain Dews a day… then a couple years back I switched to Diet Coke. I know it’s still soda, but at least without the calories. Now I drink Diet Coke w/ Splenda and it’s delish. I also like diet root beer (I’m pretty sure that’s caffeine free, though) and diet dr. pepper.
