The Right stuff???

by Heidi on January 27, 2008

As a twenty something girl I feel obligated to write about this because myself, my sister, along with just about every other girl that was born sometime in the early 90′s…loved the New Kids on the Block.

I mean what wasn’t to love? Spunky songs…”tonight tonight” being one of my favorites…

but most of all in their early 90′s glory…they were dare I say…dreeeeaaaaammmmyyyyyy. No?

Anyhow, People Magazine apparently reports that they’re….staging a comeback. Yes yes yes…you heard me right…a come back.

“Eighteen years later, they’re still “Hangin’ Tough.” The oldest “Kid,” Jonathan Knight, now a real estate developer, will turn 40 later this year. Since the band’s demise, former members Donnie Wahlberg, 38, and Joey McIntyre, 35, have seen acting success, while Danny Wood, 38, has worked as a music producer and Knight’s brother, Jordan, 37, has continued to record.” [People]

You have…got. to be. Kidding. me.

Joey McIntyre..well…I wouldn’t call his stint on Boston Public a success…would you? (though i did love that show!) And Jordan Knight….well his music hasn’t been that good since his one hit solo wonder.

And Donny…haha. haha.

Now I guess as most girls do…lets give you all my background with NKOTB.. I adored Jonathan. My sister loved Donny. We had…the barbie dolls…

And of course the pins that doubled as picture frames.

And of course….the bed sets (comforter, sheets), the curtains, the posters, the cassettes…in fact one of the first CD’s i ever got was NKOTB at my cousin’s wedding. I requested a song from the DJ and instead of playing it he just gave me the CD. My 8 year old self thought that that was the coolest thing ever.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that a bunch of middle aged former boy wonders will have a comeback half as awesome as the spice girls but alas, maybe I’ll find someone to go with. Anyone want to go?????

I saw this too and was sooooo excited! And I had basically all the stuff you had! I was a Jordan girl though, dolls, bedspread, curtains, those huge pins, clothing, on and on and on.

Don’t know if I would go to the concert, but its exciting!!

I read about this a few days ago and was like SERIOUSLY?!

I had these ridiculous NKOTB slippers. They looked like high top Converse but were really big and puffy and had all kinds of stuff in NEON COLORS all over.

    Oh god.

This totally cracks me up. I was the oddball who honestly wasn’t into them when they were big. Maybe I’ll get *it* this time around. Haha.

I was born in 1984 – enough time to get into New Kids, but I never did. I don’t know why. I’d see my friends carrying around backpacks, folders, etc. I felt like I was missing out on something haha! I just went home and played with Barbies instead.

@ Lacey Bean – yeah i dunno either but i never got to go as a kid so i’m kind of…contemplating ;)

@ Deulitch – SWEET! I think joey got cuter as he got older…i think the ugly duckling was Danny…and I always thought Jordan may be gay…but still…my childhood in a nutshell – loving those dudes :)

@ Jamie – heheheheheheheheheehee i think i remember seeing those :X Did you ever watch the cartoon of them???

@ LJ – nah. probably not. i don’t think anyone should get it 2nd time around. If it hadn’t been for the fact that i was like…eight i probably wouldn’t have gotten it the first time. I blame it on not knowing any better.

@ freeandflawed – ha! i went home and played with my NKOTB barbies :) Don’t worry…you didn’t miss much ;)

Oh man I totally flipped out when my best friend called and told me about this. I was such a fantatic, it was a little ridiculous.

However, my hopes have been dampened since I heard that according to Danny Wood there is no reunion in sight…at least not yet. Boo.

I totally want to go!! They were my very first concert and it would rock to go back and see them again!

My fave was Donny too. I have noo idea why, except I think I just always felt bad for the ugly one.

I hope they do a comeback. Yesss.
