Taking a turn for the dark side

by Heidi on January 3, 2008

So I thought I had hung up my political hat. I thought I was tired of politics, the presidential race that has been going on since the day after Election Day in 2006 (no lie).

But seeing all the hubbub in Des Moines, and knowing I have many hard working friends in Iowa right now working hard to get the candidate they think is best suited to run the country (i won’t judge their efforts) .

So, I’ve just submitted another article to my friend’s magazine and am going to start a strictly political blog. I need a cool title and a nifty lil header image but boyfriend and I are going to bang that out tonight. I’ll keep ya’ll updated on the progress of that.
Anyhow, my point – which I often lack in my writing, even I can admit that – is that I’m kind of excited. I’m going to apply to be a blogger at BOTH conventions this summer. In my previous life, I was an alternate delegate to the DNC as well as president of my college democrats, and Legislative Director of the College Dems of MA.  I’ve been writing more and last night, I got the chance to write again for my friend about Huckabee’s appearance on the Late Show with Jay Leno. Now, I tried to be as objective as I could, wrote it like a news article, as soon as I see it up on the website, I’ll put it up on my links so ya’ll can read and let me know what you think. Truth is, Huckabee kind of scares the crap out of me. That’s neither here nor there. A few of the candidates do. I have about two months to figure out who the eff I plan on casting my vote in the State of Vermont for while trying not to change my party affiliation. (FYI – yours truly has been a registered Democrat since the year 2001 on my 18th birthday)

But, my point is that I’m excited to be on the other side of the political stage. Writing about it. I should have started doing this a long time ago because I feel like this could be my calling. I tried to brush my passion for politics under the rug. Truth is, politics in DC kind of annoys the crap out of me. It’s everywhere you turn, the election has been full steam ahead since the day after election day in 2006.  I’m excited at the possibility of going to Denver/Minneapolis and mackin’ with the other bloggers, and showing my political saavy. I need to dust off the old bull horn but come on, I was (what I considered) the best of the best and knew how to rock it to get what I wanted. Isn’t that what politics is all about?

Anyhow it’s quittin’ time. More from yours truly later
